Influence of Parents on Children's Oral Health // Влияние на родителите върху детското орално здраве

Parents are the main social force influencing child development. They influence children as a model of behaviour and a source of health knowledge through the parent-child relationship. A number of scientific studies in the fields of medicine, dentistry, social sciences and education have proven the importance of parents in children's health education. The dissertation aims to study the relationship between parents' health knowledge and their children's oral health. The object of observation are 243 parents and their children aged 6 to 10 years. Parents' health knowledge and the caries risk in their children were assessed. After evaluation of the obtained results, insufficient health knowledge of the participants in the study was established. Training and motivation of the participants and a motivational interview were conducted. When assessing the risk of caries development, an individual prophylaxis plan was prepared for each child, which was implemented with the parents' active assistance after their health education. After one year of implementation of the program for health education of parents, an assessment was made of the results obtained in their children. The hypothesis is that parents' oral health literacy improves after training and motivation. The results obtained are very good, supported by statistical reliability.
