Patient Satisfaction with Emergency Nursing Related to Triage Category

<p>Sixty-six patients who used the Emergency Department of a 450 bed midwestem hospital were surveyed to determine level of satisfaction with Emergency Department nursing care. Participants were asked to complete a survey upon discharge as a patient from the Emergency Department. The survey contained questions regarding demographic data and a tool using a likert type scale to measure level of satisfaction with nursing care related to the subscales of technical competence, psychological safety, information giving, and discharge teaching.<br> This study found that, in general, participants had a high level of satisfaction with nursing care in the Emergency Department. The highest level of satisfaction was with technical competence of the nurse. The subscale with the least level of satisfaction was discharge teaching. These findings suggest that nurses need to continue to strive for a high level of technical competence, but, nurses also need to improve their activities related to discharge teaching for the patient.</p>
