Education and Support Needs of Adult Children Who Provide Care for their Parents

<p>Selected attributes, amount of stress, and perceived education and support needs of 51 adult caregivers of parents or parents-in-law were analyzed. The nonprobability sample was obtained from adult children whose parent or parent-in-law was a patient in a rehabilitation unit. A revised version of E. Matthis' (1989) questionnaire was used to determine how important education and support needs were to the subjects. The Chronbach's alpha was 0.92.<br> This investigation found that adult children who provide care for a parent or parent-in-law have many learning and support needs, and they also experience a great deal of stress in their roles of caregiver.
