Mindfulness-based interventions on stress during the antenatal period and infancy and the lived experience of primary caregiving parents of individuals with a learning disability transitioning to adulthood
Abstract
dc:description.abstractA systematic review and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions on stress in mothers, fathers, primary caregivers during the antenatal period and infancy (0-3 years):

Systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions on parental/caregiver related stress during the antenatal period and infancy (0-3 years). Experimental studies (RCTs) that evaluated the effectiveness of mindfulness-based parenting interventions on parenting related stress in mothers, fathers and primary caregivers were included. Twelve trials were included: 6 in the meta-analysis and 6 in the narrative synthesis. Overall, both the meta-analysis and narrative synthesis of RCTs demonstrated a lack of statistically significant difference between the control and experimental groups. Methodological issues, clinical implications and ideas for future research have been discussed.

The lived experience of primary caregiving parents of individuals with a learning disability transitioning to adulthood:

This study employed an Interpretive Phenological Analytical methodology and included 8 primary caregiving parents. It aimed to explore the lived experience of primary caregiving parents of individuals with a learning disability transitioning to adulthood. Six superordinate themes were identified and these were further broken down into subordinate themes. Clinical implications of these themes are discussed, as well as ideas for future research.
