Bis(pentafulven)komplexe des Titans

Due to their partial dipolar character 6,6-disubstituted pentafulvenes are ideal candidates to stabilise group IV metal complexes in oxidation states lower than +2, a class of compounds which is still confined to rare examples. Starting from in 6-position bulky disubstituted pentafulvenes, a series of new bis(fulvene) and bis(benzofulvene) group IV compounds was synthesized within the scope of this thesis. The titanium fulvene compounds are readily prepared by a direct reductive complexation of the fulvenes to titanium trihalide in the presence of magnesium. These C2- or C1-symmetric complexes of the formal M(0) oxidation state are versatile substrates for a variety of further modifications of the ligand systems. The known area of group IV pentafulvene compounds has been expanded with novel structures and reaction patterns. The reactions presented in this thesis confirm the miscellaneous chemistry of pentafulvene titanium complexes, which ranges from simple addition and insertion reactions to the activation of C-H und H-H bonds.
