Sources of regional growth difference and income disparity during the reform period in China: an empirical analysis

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The purpose of this dissertation is to make an empirical analysis on the sources of regional growth difference and income disparity during the reform period in China. After a critical review of previous theoretical and empirical literature on this issue, a new analytical framework is constructed based on the growth theory of cumulative causation and endogenous growth theory. Whether this new analytical framework is able to explain uneven growth between the coastal and the inland regions is tested empirically with the help of statistic and econometric techniques. Based on the results of empirical analysis, some policy recommendations are provided for reduction of regional income gaps in China.
