Empowerment als Hilfe zur Lebensbewältigung: Anforderungen an ein integratives Empowermentmodell für die Arbeit mit psychisch erkrankten Menschen in Zeiten postmoderner Gesellschaftsveränderungen

This dissertation is concerned with the possibilities of empowerment with chronically mental ill patients. After a theoretical discussion of the basics of empowerment a study will be presented, which aimed to examine the attitudes of the mental ill towards empowerment and self-help. The patterns, which had been found, will be used to constitute the necessarity of an integrative model of empowerment. In this meaning empowerment is a synonym for a help to 'life-coping', which is especially important for mental ill patients. Furthermore the chances and risks of empowerment in postmodern times are showed und valued. At last 'identywork' is presented as an useful device to realise empowerment, because it supports the aim of empowerment even in case of of critical biografic and personal uncertainties and enables a healthy life in spite of mental illness.
