OOCOSIM - an object-oriented co-design method for embedded hw/sw systems

dc:description.abstractThe increasing complexity of embedded systems and the resulting problems in their design, indicate an urgent need for an improved methodology to develop electronic systems. This thesis presents an object-oriented design flow called OOCOSIM to address these needs. For the design-capture it provides a graphical notion called HRT-HOOD+ to describe and refine an embedded system towards a set of communicating hardware and software objects. This description provides a design layer abstract enough to allow for a complete overview of complex systems. Communication objects, accompanied by a formal, XML-based specification language called ComiX have been introduced to handle the complexity of hw/sw communication appropriately. For testing and debugging of system modells the concept of timed co-simulation became part of the OOCOSIM method allowing to check the functional and real-time behaviour. The effectiveness of the methodology has been tested in different benchmarks.
