OOCOSIM - an object-oriented co-design method for embedded hw/sw systems

The increasing complexity of embedded systems and the resulting problems in their design, indicate an urgent need for an improved methodology to develop electronic systems. This thesis presents an object-oriented design flow called OOCOSIM to address these needs. For the design-capture it provides a graphical notion called HRT-HOOD+ to describe and refine an embedded system towards a set of communicating hardware and software objects. This description provides a design layer abstract enough to allow for a complete overview of complex systems. Communication objects, accompanied by a formal, XML-based specification language called ComiX have been introduced to handle the complexity of hw/sw communication appropriately. For testing and debugging of system modells the concept of timed co-simulation became part of the OOCOSIM method allowing to check the functional and real-time behaviour. The effectiveness of the methodology has been tested in different benchmarks.
