Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis thesis deals with the performance optimising hardware synthesis of shared objects. Shared objects are monitor-like data structures which comprise data and operations on that data, and which provide built-in synchronisation capabilities that enable to invoke the operations provided by a shared object safely from within different concurrent processes. The shared objects considered in this thesis are intended for the use in hardware specifications, where they could serve for modelling shared resources and interprocess communication, and posses an appropriate synthesis semantics. In this work various optimisations are developed which aim at reducing the delay which is caused to a process that requests an operation of a shared object owing to synchronisation with other concurrent requests. The ultimate goal is to achieve hardware implementations of shared objects which provide for higher performance, and/or higher quality of synthesis results (QoR) with respect to the performance/area ratio.
