A Report of a Video-Tape Project Addressing Attitudes Held in Springfield, Missouri Concerning Rape and Rape Victims

This thesis project was designed to increase awareness of the reality of rape in the community of Springfield, Missouri. The format of the project is a 25 minute video-tape suitable for broadcast television. Video-tape content is primarily taken from interviews with five individuals who are experts on the topic; each of these individuals is a resident of Springfield. The tape is informative and persuasive in nature; the tape should increase viewer empathy with rape victims. The program was recorded on 3/4" color video cassette with studio and portable equipment. A pilot study to measure effectiveness of the program in changing viewer attitudes about rape victims was conducted. Subjects were Speech 125 students at Southwest Missouri State University. Although the experimental group scored slightly higher than the control group, the study did not indicate a significant attitude change.
