A NEW INSTRUMENT FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF BOTH ELECTRICALLY INSULATING AND ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTING LIQUIDS, HAS BEEN DESIGNED, BUILTAND COMMISSIONED. THIS INSTRUMENT IS DESIGNED TO OPERATE IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE 20-90 C AT ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE WITH AN ASSOCIATED ACCURACY OF +0.5% OF THEABSOLUTE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY VALUES. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS INSTRUMENT, WHICH IS BASED UPON THE TRANSIENT HOT WIRE PRINCIPLE, WAS IMPLEMENTED IN TWO STAGES. IN THE FIRST STAGE, A NEW COMPUTER CONTROLLED WHEATSTONE TYPE BRIDGE WAS DESIGNED AND ASSEMBLED. FOR THE HEAT SOURCE, TWO THIN PLATINUM WIRES WERE EMPLOYED. TO CONFIRM THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS ARRANGEMENT, THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF TOLUENE WAS MEASURED. THE RESULTS SHOWED A GOOD AGREEMENT WITH EARLIER WORK, HEXANE, HEPTANE, DECANE, BENZENE, XYLENE ISOMERS WAS CONSEQUENTLY MEASURED IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE 20-90 C. IN THE SECOND STAGE FOR THE ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTING LIQUIDS THE PLATINUM WIRES WERE SUBSTITUTED BY TWO THIN TANTALUM WIRES, WHICH WERE ANODICALLY COATED WITH THEIR OXIDE. (SHORTENED)
