A Study of the Effects of Convalescent Home Care on Thirty-Nive Boys
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>Individual convalescent care in the modern meaning of the word is now in this country. It made is appearance in the beginning of the twentieth century with the establishment of the Winifred Masterson Burke Foundation in 1902. Following the development of convalescent work in America we find convalescent care for children establishing its own institutions. This care is not only for children who are recovering from acute illness or from an accident, but also children suffering from malnutrition and underweight who have not had the chance to lend a normal healthy life.</p> <p>This dissertation attempts to study the effects of convalescent care on young boys between the ages of six and twelve who were discharged from Christ Child [writing illegible] in 1935. The year 1935 was chosen in order that each child would have sufficient time to show the effect of the convalescent care.</p>
