Reru: figuras em cordéis dos Índios Karajá

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Examines a cultural feature in the form of a leisure activity which is common) to many peoples in the world. A close look into the activity of string figure making can give us many insights to help us better understand human creativity and ludic nature. Through an account of a sampling collection of string figures, which include their construction methods, collected among a brazilian indigenous people, the Karajá people, who inhabit the central brazilian inlands, we examine the string figures as final cultural products as well as the activity of making them as a creative process which is an interplay between a keen aesthetic sense and a joyfull ludic experience. An account of a cultural revival experience with the Karajá people and their string figures is also reported.
