Silicium Nanodrähte für die extrazelluläre Ableitung elektrischer Aktivität

Due to their high surface-to-volume ratio silicon nanowires are promising candidates for highly sensitive biosensors. We designed and fabricated nanowire transistors suitable for the extracellular detection of electrical activity. These sensors were characterized thoroughly and tested with HL-1 and HEK cells. The tests with HL-1 cells which are heart tumor cells spontaneously exhibiting action potentials showed that all physiological characteristics could be detected and explained with previous data. For single-cell coupling experiments we used the HEK cells. By measuring the transfer-function between the interior of the cells and the nanowires we could show that an improvement of the coupling by a factor of up to four is possible. The electrical characterisation is augmented with scanning electron micrographs illustrating mechanical aspects of the cell-nanowire-coupling and confirming the good suitability of the produced devices for cell based sensors. They could be used forbasic research, pharmaceutic studies or novel prosthetic devices.
