The WIC clinics were in the West Virginia counties of Ritchie, Gilmer, Calhoun, Braxton, Mason, Jackson, Pleasants, and Greenbrier where the anemia rates were greater than 10%.;Information concerning WIC participation, prenatal vitamin use, history of breast feeding, infant birth weight, and pre-term delivery were obtained through questionnaires. Infants' serum ferritin level was obtained through venous blood and analyzed.;This ex post facto study found no significant result in mothers who took prenatal vitamins or not and the serum ferritin levels of their infants.
