Optical measurement of ash particle size and velocity in gas-solid flow

The objective of this research is the development of an image acquisition and processing prototype system, and its application to measuring the size and velocity distribution of moving particles in a gas-solid environment. The prototype system consists of a digital image acquisition module and MATLAB RTM image-processing module. Two specific applications were conducted. The first is the measurement of ash particle characteristics during surface regeneration of a candle filter system under room and elevated temperatures. The second application is on-line measurement of particle separation in a simulated Circulating Fluid Bed (CFB) riser system. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the prototype system for on-line measurement of particle size and velocity distribution.
