Subsurface Paleo-Stream Reach Reconstruction and Classification Using Seismic Data Interpretation
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIncorporating the techniques and applications used in the 3D seismic geophysical interpretations with the Rosgen (1996) stream classification, this study was able to identify paleo-stream reaches in the Frio Formation within the Stratton 3D seismic data set. Hydraulic geometry variables from Rosgen's classification scheme were used to classify paleo-stream reaches shown in the seismic data. Estimated paleo-discharges were reconstructed to compare the potential magnitude of flow in the paleo-stream reaches to that in modern rivers in Texas and Mississippi. However, classification and discharge results were accompanied with a high margin of error and many uncertainties regarding the stream channel's geometry and features.
