Analysis of operational efficiency and mitigation strategies in supply chains: Empirical studies in Bangladesh

The objective of this dissertation is to find empirical evidence for decision-making in supply chains. In this dissertation, a literature review was conducted, and two models were developed. This study was primarily motivated by supply chain issues faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the literature review, the nature of the supply chain risk management and resilience research, and also the benefit and critical factors of supply chain risk management strategies for supply chain operational efficiencies and resilience has been investigated. In the first model, resource-based view and extended resource-based view (ERBV) have been used to examine the relationship between (a) supply chain proactive risk mitigation strategy and supply chain operational efficiency and (b) supply chain operational efficiency and supply chain resiliency. Moreover, in this model, the moderating impact of post-risk mitigation strategy on the relationship between the supply chain operational efficiency and supply chain resiliency has been studied. Our study finds out that the supply chain proactive risk mitigation strategy positively impacts operational efficiency, and operational efficiency positively impacts supply chain resilience. Also, our study indicates that the post-risk mitigation strategy doesn’t moderate the relationship between operational efficiency and supply chain resilience. The second model uses the resource-based view and organizational information processing theory to investigate the relationship between supply chain data analytics and order fulfillment and supply chain flexibility for small and medium-sized companies with limited data analytics capabilities. We conclude that there is a positive relationship between supply chain data analytics and order fulfillment. However, supply chain flexibility negatively moderates the relationship between supply chain analytics and order fulfillment, and also supply chain flexibility doesn’t impact order fulfillment.
