Computational Modeling of Lower Extremity and Thoracolumbar Spine Response in Automotive and Spaceflight Landing
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIn the United States, 3.9 million non-fatal injuries occur annually from motor vehicle crashes. Frontal crashes remain the most common crash mode, and lower extremity injuries are the leading AIS 2+ injury for drivers involved in frontal crashes. While there has been steady improvement in standardized vehicle crash test performance, the incidence rate of lower extremity injuries remains virtually unchanged over the past 15 years. On the other hand, multiple retrospective studies have found that the incidence rate of thoracolumbar spine injuries have increased over the last decade.
