Abstract

Polymer based organic photovoltaic (OPV) is making great progress on solar cell performance in the past decade. As a potential alternative to conventional expensive photovoltaic technology, the ability of processing in solution enables OPV technology to be more and more popular in research area as well as the photovoltaic market. However, the low performance (<9%) comparing to the cost limitation of industrial production (>12%) and the lifetime of the absorbing materials (less than a year) remains unsolved. In order to realize the commercialization of OPV technique, this thesis aiming to discuss on three approaches to enhance the polymer solar cell performances: film morphology, device optical geometry and multi-junction connections.
