The molecular events associated with the initial formation of apoB-containing lipoproteins within the endoplasmic reticula of hepatic and intestinal cells are poorly understood. Earlier studies are consistent with a cotranslational lipid-desorption model that requires microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) and results in the formation of a small, neutral lipid core-containing emulsion particle.
