Karl Löwith's View of History: A Humanist Alternative to Historicism

<p>The survival and increasing academic importance of the supra-historical position, particularly as an alternative to existential ontology and English analytical philosophy, indicate that a careful study of this particular trend is in order. The following analysis of the intellectual development of Karl Löwith, a thinker who in the course of his career moved from phenomenology and ontology to historicism and then finally to the supra-historical position, it is hoped, will make a contribution toward such a study.</p>
