Evaluating a Racial Equity Curriculum for Anti-Racist Organizational Change
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis thesis will report on a training that used the Dismantling Racism Workbook (Brown et al., 2016) curriculum to achieve positive organizational change for racial equity in a college setting. The research question for this study is “How did the Dismantling Racism curriculum affect college staff and faculty participants' racial equity work and anti-racist behavior post-training?” The study uses data from 14 participants who engaged in six workshops over a six-week period from October-November 2020 at a small, private liberal arts college in the Pacific Northwest. The training participants engaged in both individual and group work to complete the curriculum from the Dismantling Racism Workbook (Brown et al, 2016). A mixed method approach was employed, including analysis of workshop surveys collected throughout the workshop series, along with interviews conducted with a sub-group of participants five months after the training was completed. This study hopes to explore if and how the curriculum contributed to a more inclusive college workplace due to participants' knowledge and skills gained in the workshop.
