Architecture of Connection: A Mixed-Use Housing Strategy for Building Urban Community
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis thesis proposes that a more community-oriented housing type, informed by cohousing, student housing, and German baugruppen, is an important response to the social isolation brought by increased urban density, less public social space, and current demographic trends that increase the likelihood of our living alone. In an effort to strengthen social networks at multiple scales, this thesis proposes an urban housing community with extensive shared space as well as spaces that are open to and shared with the public.
