Thèse include an apparent hyperplacentation and fetal macrosomia and trophoblastic morphofunctional pathology, which may contribute to increased morbidity and mortality rates. Reports hâve indicated that fetal and placental macrosomia does not always resuit from maternai hyperglycemia and that insulin m a y stimulate cellular prolifération in vitro. A family of growth factors known as the Insulin-like Growth Factors (IGFs) hâve been identified and shown to share insulin's biological activities. Thèse, too, are thought to play an important rôle in the growth and development of the fétus. Due to the structural similarities, insulin and the IGFs m a y bind with each other's receptors to elicit a response.
