Preliminary design of a booking information system for the city of Columbia, South Carolina
Abstract
dc:description.abstractA need has been identified for a booking information system (BIS) for the City of Columbia, South Carolina to automate the arrestee booking process, collect booking information and images, and transfer information to a records management system. This project presents problems to be solved by a BIS, a conceptual design, requirements generated for a BIS, then subsequently a life-cycle cost analysis and a preliminary design. The design utilizes commercial-off-the-shelf hardware and software components to promote compliance to industry standards, ease-of-use, reliability, and flexibility. Market surveys and maintenance provisions are included. Benefits of a BIS include enabling law enforcement personnel to make better decisions through access to complete information; streamlining the information process; and making booking more efficient allowing officers to spend more time preserving public safety.
