This thesis is tested vis-a-vis the measurement of influence of the leading figures of four competing theory groups, namely Talcott Parsons (functionalism), George Homans (exchange theory), Erving Goffman (the dramaturgical wing of symbolic interactionism), and Harold Garfinkel (ethnomethodology).
