Rusiškas mesianizmas: Putino Rusijos ideologijos ištakų ir turinio beieškant /
Abstract
dc:descriptionThis paper analyses the Russian messianism in modern Russia. Messianism is understood as an ideology that is the best way to explains Russian policy under Putin. The main goal is to understand where lies the origins of modern Russian messianism and what is its content. Therefore, four key elements of messianism were identified: subject, object, a linear time perception and criticism to the existing world order. These elements were discussed in the traditions of romantic and communist Russian messianism and also discussed in the modern tradition of Russian messianism. Presidential annual address to the Federal Assembly as official rhetoric and philosophical works of Putin’s personal adviser Surkov were analysed to understand, how messianic ideas are expressed in the official rhetoric and how the main four elements of messianism have been transformed in comparison with the previously discussed traditions of Russian messianism. It is concluded that, although in contemporary Russian messianism some ideas of romantic and communist Russian messianism can be revealed, but however, it can’t be claimed that contemporary Russian messianism is an appropriate and consistent continuation of these ideas. Contemporary Russian messianism is a new, unique and changing phenomenon. It is influenced not only by the complex Russian tradition of political thought, but also by challenging international context. As Russian messianism is "re-borning" and not yet “born”, it is difficult to predict what direction it will take and what form it can get – a moderate or, on the contrary, an aggressive one. This requires further research to be made to analyse how the messianic ideas are addressed to the international community, how Russia identify itself, how changes its values, how are the West constructed etc.
