Belarus is a highly unpredictable country with a very diverse foreign security policy. This country is perceived as a strong Russian ally in almost all matters, especially security. But the truth is quite different from the existing public opinion and Belarus is showing signs of a quickly changing policy. Due to the concerning world and regional events Belarus started looking for different allies in almost all possible places to ensure that this country will get much needed security and resources. In the first part of the analysis we looked at the political connection between Belarus and European Union – NATO. After the 2010 presidential election in Belarus the relations worsened severely and EU imposed sanction against Belarus, NATO also stood firmly against the Belarusian government. Relations reached the lowest point possible, but Belarus still participated in some ongoing projects/programs that were created by the EU or NATO. At the beginning of year 2014 Belarus radically changed their policy towards EU and NATO, this was the beginning of good relations. The events in Ukraine, Russia’s annexation of Crimea and changing political atmosphere in the region/world made Belarus to rethink their security policy. The EU now stood as a beneficial political partner that could help the country to improve their political status and boost the economy. NATO now was perceived as a gateway to modern military technology and a possible partner in the future. But Belarus did not abandon its existing allies like Russia because that was not beneficial for the country. The second part of this analysis consists of the relations between Belarus and Russia – CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organisation) in the sphere of security. During the years 2010 – 2011 Belarus and Russia had a political crisis because of the disagreements in the terms of trade, oil resource supply and political differences. At the same moment Belarus had a stand against the creation of rapid defence forces which would be made for CSTO purposes. But shortly after Belarus agreed to the creation of these forces and started encouraging member states to unify more against potential threats. After the events in Ukraine and annexation of Crimea Belarus carefully expressed their negative views about this situation and Russian policy towards the region. Belarus tried to re - establish their relations with EU and NATO and started to limit its connection to Russia and CSTO. But still this country tries to keep noticeably good relation with their ally Russia, participates in their military exercises, develops economy together. But at the same time Belarus searches for new potential allies and does not allow Russia to boost their influence in their country. Belarus established relations with Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine shortly after its independence and had very different approaches to each of them. But in the period of 2010 – 2016 relations become very unstable and dynamic due to decisions made in Belarus. This country expanded its military capabilities near the boarders of Lithuania and Poland and participates in joint regional military exercises with Russia. Political - military moves from Belarus posed a threat to Lithuania and Poland, but starting from 2014 Belarus re – engaged these countries and started talks for security – economic cooperation. Relations with Ukraine also had very different phases, 2010 marked political a conflict between them. Shortly after the conflict in Ukraine and annexation of Crimea Belarus publically showed their support for the new Ukrainian government. Also this country stood against Russian position towards Ukraine and helped this country with military materials and technicians. After the main analysis it was clear that during the 2010 -2016 period Belarus implemented decisions that created a dynamic atmosphere in their security policy.","abstract_html":"Belarus Foreign Security Policy Dynamics in 2010 - 2016.
