Abstract
dc:descriptionSubjective Evaluation of Psychological Effect of Animals and the Personality of Estimator. Animals and humans have been living side by side for many centuries. During this time, affiliation, collaboration, friendship, and a special relational connection took place. Animals were even recruited for such responsible tasks as guides for blind people and companions for handicapped. Although animals have been increasingly used in psychotherapy for decades, scientists have disagreed about its effectiveness and the animal's need in this process. Many animal lovers give a lot of appreciation to their pets about their emotional help and understanding. Often they call their four-legged friends their best friend, family or even a child. This makes it possible to understand the important role of pets in the lives of people. Since studies on the use of animals in therapy are contradictory, it is not unusual that the psychological effects of a simple friendship between animal and their owner in research are also shown differently. Since the studies showed various different results, the question arises that maybe these differences arise from the different personality characteristics of the people that are being studied. The study involved 140 respondents of various education and work situation, aged 18-76 years (average of 28,5 years), of which 25.7% were male and 74.3%. was a female. Five factor personality questionnaire were used for evaluation of personality traits and a questionnaire of the subjective evaluation of psychological effect of animals composed of several different questionnaires and several additional questions was used. The results showed that the subjective evaluation of psychological effect of animals has a relation with extraversion (p <0.001), consciousness (p <0.001), agreement (p <0.001), and openness (p <0.001). Also, women were statistically significantly more likely to evaluate of psychological effect of animals higher (p = 0.007), their pets more important (p <0.001), more positively evaluated their pet owning experience (p <0.001) than men. The plan to buy a new pet, in the loss of current pet, has a statistically significant correlation with the anxiety about the situation of their pet in the time of the loss of the current owner (p <0.001) and importance of their current pet (p <0.001).
