Abstract
dc:descriptionThe Relationship Between Approach to Aging, Elderly People and Personality, Psychosocial Factors. Marina Guptor. Master Thesis. Vilnius. Vilnius University. 2018. 68 pages Aim: to identify the personality, psychosocial factors, related to an approach towards ageing and eldry people. Number of respondents: 186 people (50 males and 136 females), average age – 39,49 years. Used tools: the Fraboni Scale of Ageism (FSA), the Scale of Anxiety and Ageing, the NEO Five Factor Inventory (NEO – FFI), the Gratitude Inventory and the Interpersonal Reaction Index Inventory. The Thesis involves a correlative research, comparison of the averages, also a regressive and clustering analysis. It is only the openness and the agreeableness from the Big Five, which are linked to ageism and anxiety about ageing. As men are more open-minded and less conscientious, they have a poorer opinion of the elderly, but more open-minded women are more likely to look at the elderly. Male and female openness is related to decreased anxiety of ageing. Grateful people are friendlier towards aged people. Young men are less disposed and more negative towards aged people. Both males and females feature increased anxiety of ageing, and express more discriminative statements towards aged people.
