The aim of research work: Evaluate the Effect of spontaneous movements on Patients’ gait and balance after stroke. Tasks of work: 1. To evaluate the balance and waist control change during the course of rehabilitation of patients after stroke, which apply the normal spontaneous movements and physical therapy treatments; 2. To evaluate gait change during the course of rehabilitation in patients after stroke, which apply the normal spontaneous movements and physical therapy treatments; 3. To evaluate damaged leg muscle force change during the course of rehabilitation of patients after stroke, which apply the normal spontaneous movements and physical therapy treatments; 4. To evaluate the functional status change during the course of rehabilitation of patients after stroke, which apply the normal spontaneous movements and physical therapy treatments. Materials and methods: 2017 February – April a clinical study was performed in the Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių Klinikos Centre of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2nd department. Study involved 20 (n=20) patients after stroke. The subjects was randomly divided into two groups: control (n=10) and experimental (n=10). For control group it was carried out usual physical therapy treatments. For experimental group it was carried out treatment by spontaneous movements. To assess the results was used: functional independence test, Barthel index, the Berg Balance scale, functional reach test, Tinetti balance and gait scale, „Up and Go“ test and Lovett grading scale of muscle strength. Statistical analysis was performed using „R Commander“ and „Microsoft Office Excel 2010“ programs. Results: It was noticed statistically significant improvements in daily autonomy, gait, balance and damaged leg muscle strength (p<0.05) after the research in control group using spontaneous movements. It was noticed statistically significant improvements (p<0.05) in daily autonomy, gait, and damaged leg muscle strength after the research in experimental group using normal physical therapy treatments. However, balance of the experimental group not improved (p>0.05). Both groups showed a statistically significant (p>0.05) changes in waist control and speed of walking. Conclusions: 1. Subjects applied spontaneous movements significantly improved balance (p <0.05). Obtaining a group subjected to conventional physical therapy procedures, balance changes were not statistically significant (p> 0.05). Two groups waist control change is not statistically significant (p> 0.05); 2. Changes in gait, statistically significantly improved in both treatment groups (p <0.05); 3. A group of subjects, who had applied spontaneous movements of the affected leg muscle strength evolution, was statistically significantly higher (p <0.05). 4. Changes of functional status was statistically significantly higher in group were spontaneous movements was applied (p> 0.05).
