Supervisor: Rimgaudas Staigis, medical doctor and lecturer. Length: 40 pages 2017-05-15 According to the World Health Organization, more than 300000 heart valve operations have been carried out worldwide every year since 2003. Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of lower quality of life and death in both men and women in Europe. The indicators of quality of life are different after a heart valve prosthesis operation, comparing them to the condition before the operation. After the intervention the role of nurses is vital in order to maintain positive indicators of quality of life. It is neccessary to apply suitable nursing models and patient self-care trainings. Main concepts: heart valve prostheses, quality of life. Main object: To evaluate the quality of life after heart valve prosthesis intervention. Tasks: 1. To find out what are the problems of patients‘ nursing and their effects on the quality of life after heart valve prosthesis intervention, using a standardized SF 36 questionnaire. 2. To compare the changes in the quality of life after changes in life conditions during the preoperational and post-operational periods. 3. The evaluation of frequently occuring nursing issues and their effect on the quality of life. Research methods. Duration of the research: March-April 2017. The questionnaires were handed out in Vilnius University Santariškių clinics hospital. 49 patients who underwent heart valve prosthesis intervention took part in the research. Heart surgery (I and II posts), cardiology (I and II posts) and cardiology ambulatory departments were chosen for the research. An anonymous study was carried out, using a SF-36 questionnaire (Short Form 36 Medical Outcomes Study questionnaire). The questions covered the evaluation of physical and mental health quality of life after heart valve prosthesis intervention. Furthermore, several additional questions for the SF-36 questonnaire were formed, using analysed scientific literature. Statistical data analysis was carried out using „SPSS 19 for Windows“ and „ Microsoft Office Excel 2007“ software. Research results. There were frequencies counted between these variables – gender, depression while postoperative time, operation’s periods of time frequencies and distribution. There was made physical and mental health analysis. Physical health area’s indicators: middle range in the preoperative time – 14,50. In the postoperative time - 32,24. By valuating the group of this research, there was statistically significant difference. There was made a valuation of correlation subscale’s connection and direction. Statistically positive and significant indicators of connection were seen in physical health and between activity restriction of physical problems. In this research there was also shown a valuation indicators, which was chosen by strong connection of correlation. Conclusion. 1) Quality of life in postoperative period of time where heart valve prosthesis were made – mostly there is involved factors of physical health problems and physical pain. These factors are shown by indicators of this research. 2) In preoperative time there were more respondents who felt low pain. In postoperative time intensivity of pain increased till middle intensivity. In both operative times mobility disorter were found. 3) Mental health‘s problems are less involved in postoperative time than physical health‘s problems. These physical health problems are: limitation of work because of physical problems, difficulty by doing any work or any other activity, physical health‘s problems limiting various activities, respondent‘s whish to do more than they can, body pain of intensity and body pain‘s obstruction to any work or activity.","abstract_html":"Bachelor of Nursing Program PATIENTS QUALITY OF LIFE EVALUATION IN POSTOPERATIVE PERIOD AFTER HEART VALVE PROSTHESIS INTERVENTION Nursing Bachelor's thesis Author: Vilija Svinkūnaitė, 4th year student of VU Nursing Bachelor‘s program.
