Figurative language extends beyond literal meanings, evoking emotions and associations in readers through various stylistic devices such as metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche, simile, hyperbole, and epithet. Understanding the prevalence and usage of lexical stylistic devices in modern American literature is crucial for comprehending the depth and richness of literary works. While previous studies have explored various aspects of figurative language, there remains a gap in analysing specific lexical devices in contemporary American literature. This research aims to fill that void by examining how Nicholas Sparks employs these devices to convey nuanced meanings and enhance the reader’s experience. The objectives of this research include analysing the nuanced aspects of figurative language, discussing the different lexical stylistic devices, exploring their phenomenon of Nicholas Sparks writing style and specifically analysing the usage of lexical stylistic devices in “The Lucky One”. To achieve the results, the research employs methods such as descriptive theoretical literary analysis, descriptive analytical method and statistical analysis to determine the frequency of each lexical device. By analysing Sparks’ writing style, the research reveals the author’s talent for vivid descriptions and effective use of figurative language, which contribute to the novel’s captivating narrative. The most prevalent lexical stylistic device in The Lucky One is metaphor, followed by epithet, metonymy, simile, synecdoche, and hyperbole. These devices enhance communication by conveying hidden meanings and creating vivid imagery, enriching the reader’s understanding and emotional engagement with the text. The research contributes valuable insights into the relationship between language choices and conveyed ideas in modern American literature.
