Abstract
dc:descriptionSubject of bachelor’s dissertation is as follows: “Challenges a Special Education Teacher Faces in Inclusive Education Setting”. Realising inclusive education raises tensions in schooling communities. Namely, the issues are lack of educational support specialists, flawed interdisciplinary communication, deficient communication between participants in educational processes, poorly prepared pedagogues and parents and other obstacles that arise creating educational spaces for pupils with special educational needs. This paper conducts a theoretical analysis of inclusive education presumptions, roles of special education teacher and obstacles in inclusive education. Question of research: what kinds of challenges do special education teachers face as participants in inclusive education? Object of research: challenges a special education teacher faces in inclusive education setting. Purpose of research: disclose and analyse challenges and difficulties a special education teacher faces in inclusive education setting. To achieve research purpose, a set of objectives has been concluded, such as acknowledging theoretical presumptions of inclusive education and responsibilities and professional hardships a special education teacher faces in inclusive education; disclosing different special education teacher’s roles and attitudes toward the process of inclusive education; detecting ways physical environment can be adapted to meet special education teacher’s needs and accommodate children’s special educational needs; and recognizing hardships and challenges a special education teacher faces communicating with parents and teachers in professional practise. 12 special education teachers currently working in general education schools have taken part in this research. Research was conducted on April 29th – May 15th. Methods used in research: theoretical analysis of academic literature, qualitative research (semi-structured interviews) and subject-matter analysis. Research findings have revealed a wide range of roles for special education teachers which testifies to big demands a special education teacher and educational help receives from education community. Educational institutions attempt to accommodate students with special educational needs, however, they lack in adapting physical environment and specialised educational tools. Challenges a special education teacher faces in inclusive education are associated with lack of cooperation from parents and teachers.
