Despite scientific criticism, astrological beliefs persist even as the population becomes more educated, scientifically sophisticated and advanced. Scientists are trying to find out what this has to do with. Based on an analysis of the literature, the aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between astrological beliefs and personality traits and trust in scientists, democratic institutions and other people. The empirical study involved 150 participants (124 women and 26 men). Their average age was ~34 years. The instruments used in the study were the Belief in Astrology Inventory (Chico & Lorenzo-Seva, 2006) and the HEXACO personality traits instrument (Ashton & Lee, 2009). Trust in others was measured by 6 statements originally developed by Yamagishi T. and Yamagishi M. (1994), translated and adapted by V. Pakalniškienė. Trust in democratic institutions was measured by 3 statements, based on the Kairys et al. survey instrument (Kairys et al., 2023); trust in scientists was measured by a separate question, based on the General Social Survey (Krause et al., 2019) and the Trust in Scientists Index (McCright et al., 2013) survey statements. The results showed that astrological beliefs are associated with gender - women tend to believe in astrology more than men; age - older people tend to believe more, and the personality trait of extraversion - the higher the extraversion score, the higher the astrological beliefs. Correlations were also found with trust in democratic institutions - the data showed that the less a person tends to trust democratic institutions, the higher his or her astrological belief scores.
