„Orchidėjos gali žydėti ir pievose?“: Itin didelio jautrumo ryšys su suvokiama socialine parama ir klestėjimu tarp jaunų suaugusiųjų akademiniame kontekste /
Abstract
dc:descriptionSensory-processing sensitivity (SPS) may be associated with difficulties in the academic context due to trait-related environmental sensitivity as well as the specific qualities of the academic environment. There is still a lack of research on whether flourishing and cognitive performance could be enhanced under positive contextual conditions as well as on the role of social support in this interaction. The current study examines the relationship between sensory processing sensitivity and flourishing in an academic context, as well as the role of social support as a possible mediator between the two. Sample size: 301 young adults currently enrolled in college. 4 instruments were used in the study: 1) Highly Sensitive Person Scale, 2) Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, 3) The Flourishing Scale and 4) Cognitive Performance Task. The data quality was assessed using careless responding procedure, construct validity was assessed using a principal component factor analysis, reliability checked by internal consistency test. The research strategy used correlations between variables and mediation analysis. Results indicated that aesthetic sensitivity (AES) was positively correlated with flourishing, while sensitivity to overstimulation (SOS) was negatively correlated. The AES component was also positively related to perceived social support. Perceived social support mediated only partly the relationship between AES and flourishing, but not the relationship between SPS and cognitive performance. The SOS component and remaining components of sensory-processing sensitivity may contribute to academic difficulties among young adults, whereas the AES may serve as a personal resource.
