Moterų įvykdyti intymaus partnerio nužudymai smurto artimoje aplinkoje kontekste /

Abstract

dc:description

For decades, the scientific discourse regarding the genesis of female criminal behaviour was rather limited. Thus, the conception of female perpetrated intimate partner homicide, stemming from stereotypical attitudes of "female criminal" who renounced her feminine nature, was no exception. It was only later, as feminist ideas gained greater significance in explaining female criminal behaviour, the causality of intimate partner homicide began to be more frequently associated with the experience of domestic violence. Although domestic violence victimization among females might be perceived as only on of the antecedents of intimate partner homicide, it often becomes a significant source of strain that contributes to the exercise of informal social control. Grounded on these theoretical conceptions, a mixed-method criminological study was conducted, involving an analysis of criminal court verdicts and semi-structured interviews with female prisoners serving a custodial sentence and prison staff. The study revealed that females who perpetrate intimate partner homicide usually tend to have a certain degree of social vulnerability, related to their experience of alcohol misuse and victimization form domestic violence. Based on the quantitative and qualitative data gathered during the mixed-method criminological study, it can be observed that some females who have experienced intimate partner violence in the domestic environment, perpetrate homicide in order to cease the violence, while others intentionally hope for partner’s death, therefore seemingly fulfilling a subjective perception of justice.
