Abstract
dc:descriptionNowadays, travel has become highly popular, and the selection of vehicles is very extensive. However, choosing unsustainable transportation methods inflicts damage on the environment. Automobiles dominate the transportation sector globally. Automobiles with internal combustion engines that use fossil fuels emit greenhouse gases into the environment, which contribute to climate change. In order to reduce climate change, countries have adopted laws that promote the deployment of electric vehicles, whose usage will reduce the impact on the environment. Effectively advancing the promotion of electric vehicle usage also requires a well-developed charging station infrastructure, which should be abundant and easily accessible to drivers. The use of electric vehicles may not always be considered entirely sustainable, as the electricity is often generated from fossil fuels. Achieving complete sustainability also requires the development of renewable energy infrastructure, which will further contribute to reducing environmental pollution. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to analyze the spatial distribution of electric vehicle charging stations and access points in Lithuanian municipalities, and predict the missing access points and the necessary installation of stations according to the set conditions and the distribution of population grids in the municipalities of major cities in Lithuania. The requirements set by the European Commission, the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Alternative Fuels, the Sustainable Mobility Plan of Vilnius city, and information provided by other organizations regarding electric vehicles and charging stations, were analyzed in the bachelor's thesis. After collecting data on public and semi-public charging stations in Lithuania, an analysis was conducted and maps were prepared to illustrate the spatial distribution of electric vehicle charging stations in municipalities, as well as the distribution of access points to charging stations in each municipality, along with the distribution of residents in charging zones in selected major Lithuanian cities (Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, and Alytus), comparing it with the distribution of all residents within each city's 100m x 100m grid. The conducted study also allowed for the identification of municipalities with a lack of charging access points. The distribution of residents in major cities and the number of people within 500 meters of charging stations provide an overview of the current station locations and help predict new installation sites to serve as many people as possible. Municipalities and charging station operators can plan the development of charging stations accordingly.
