Abstract

dc:description

Based on the life-course criminology approach, the aim was to analyze the contexts of risk factors that manifest in repeat offenders in Lithuania and to identify the aspects that influenced the onset and continuity of criminal behavior by examining the life histories of individuals. The developmental life-course approach and Moffitt's theory are used. Developmental and life-course criminology is concerned with three main issues: the development of antisocial behavior in individuals who violate the law, the risk and protective factors at different stages of a person's life, and the impact of life events on the course of development. Moffitt formulates a dichotomy, distinguishing between two different scenarios regarding categories of antisocial individuals: those whose antisocial behavior manifests throughout their lifetime and those whose antisocial behavior appears only during adolescence. A qualitative study and narrative interviews with the study participants were conducted. By analyzing the informants' life experiences, the study identified the social contexts of risk factors. This research revealed social risk factor contexts that manifested throughout the lifetimes of repeat offenders – during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. The qualitative study, which included an analysis of the informants' life experiences, is beneficial as it brings to light new aspects by examining each individual's life experience uniquely.
