Jaunų suaugusiųjų suvoktos tėvų perdėtos globos sąsajos su apsimetėlio fenomenu /

Abstract

dc:description

Parental overprotection is excessive protection and involvement in a child's life, and people experiencing the impostor phenomenon believe that others are exaggerating their achievements and are afraid of not being able to replicate their success. The aim of this study is to establish the relationship between young adults' perceptions of parental overprotection and the impostor phenomenon. In the study 197 respondents participated: 157 were women, 35 men and 5 of another gender; Mage = 21.2 years (SD = 1.94). Participants were recruited through sharing the online survey in Facebook groups, mail groups and with snowball sampling. The instruments used in the study - the Short Version of the Multidimensional Overprotection Parenting Scale (S-MOPS, Chevrier et. al., 2023) and the Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale (CIPS, Clance, 1985). The study found that the greater the young adults' perceived father‘s and mother‘s anxious overprotection, the greater the experience of the impostor phenomenon. The study revealed that only mum's anxious overprotection predicted the impostor phenomenon. In future research on this topic, the authors should try to use a larger sample of men and add constructs such as parentification and gender stereotypes.
