Previous research has found a link between the duration of screen time, parental stress and emotional difficulties for children. The present study aimed to assess how screen use by pre-school children is related to children's temperament and parental behavioural strategies. The study involved collaboration with pre-school institutions in different regions of Lithuania. Parents were asked to complete a questionnaire consisting of demographic questions, CBCL 1½-5 (Achenbach & Rescorla, 2000), the Parental Distress Scale (Jusienė et al., 2022) and the Television Mediation Scale (Valkenburg et al., 1999). Statistical analyses used data from 104 parents about their children, 60 boys and 44 girls (mean age 3 years and 10.5 months, SD = 14.28 months). No correlation was found between parents' behavioural strategies and the average duration of their children's screen use. There was a statistically significant association between children's temperament and the average duration of screen use.","abstract_html":"Given the increasing use of screen-based media and the challenges it poses, it is particularly important to explore the factors associated with increased use in early childhood.
