Women's mental health depends on a range of conditions. Women tend to have higher levels of depression and anxiety symptoms than men. However, that does not only depend on being a woman, but rather women feeling good in their gender identity. Gender self-confidence is defined through a person’s belief that they meet their own standards of femininity or masculinity (Hoffman et al., 2000). Examining the femininity of women is important because it can show whether women's mental health and their perceptions of gender are solely dependent on socially constructed gender roles, or whether women's confidence in their gender is also important. The current survey was conducted online. The participants were selected by non-probability convenience sampling. The group of subjects for this study consisted of 322 women, who’s age range was from 18 to 76. The Hoffman Gender Scale, the short form Patient Health Questionnaire and the Mental Health Continuum Short Form were used to measure the constructs in the current study. Correlational analysis and two population probability analysis were performed. IBM SPSS Statistics software was used to analyze the results. The main findings indicate that gender self-definition and acceptance of one's femininity are associated with higher psychological and emotional well-being and lower symptoms of depression and anxiety. The importance of feminine identity and acceptance of one's femininity was more strongly associated with older women.
