Abstract

dc:description

The Bachelor's thesis presents an analysis of the change of local communities in the context of the transformation of the care system. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the process of the transformation of the care system for persons with disabilities, the concept of disability, the life of persons with disabilities in institutions, the services provided in the community, the social services for persons with disabilities, and the benefits of community support. In order to find out how local communities have changed in the context of the transformation of the care system, a study was carried out with two groups of informants - community members and people with disabilities living in group homes. A two-part study combining qualitative and quantitative research methods was conducted. The first stage of the research was a qualitative study, which aimed to investigate the interaction between the community and the people living in the group home: how they felt before living in the group home and what has changed, whether they feel safe living in the community, and the role that people with disabilities play in the community. The data for this study was collected using a semi-structured interview method and the results were analysed by transcribing, paraphrasing, conceptualising and combining the categories of all interviews into one. The second stage of the study used a quantitative research methodology, the questionnaire survey method, to explore the characteristics of the interaction between the community and the people living in the group home, from the perspective of the community: what feelings prevailed after learning about the establishment of the group home and what had changed in terms of attitudes towards the people living in the neighbourhood with disabilities. This research method allows trends to be identified and the results to be interpreted. The study showed that attitudes in the community where people with disabilities live have changed, mostly in a positive direction. The majority of the community members welcome the proximity of the residents of the group home and are in favour of the integration of people with disabilities into society. In contrast, people with disabilities, while enjoying the good neighbourliness provided by other community members, feelings of security and trust are generated by the residents and staff of the group home, not by community members. However, the trust of persons with disabilities in the community is hampered by the persistent hostility towards the residents of the group home. Although it is already lower than before the group home was established.
