The bachelorʼs thesis explores the expression of space with deictic words (adverbs of place čia ʻhereʼ / ten ʻthereʼ and demonstrative pronouns šis ʻthisʼ / tas ʻthatʼ / anas ʻthatʼ) and their use in virtual tours. The study aims to determine what meanings and functions are gained in the researched contexts, to find out which deictic words dominate the virtual tours. Qualitative and descriptive methods are used in the work. The research material is collected from videos of virtual excursions selected on YouTube, with a duration of 2 hours 15 min. After watching the videos, 225 pictures and 246 text fragments with deictic words denoting distance or proximity were selected. First, deictic adverbs of place are analyzed: from cases of direct deixis to imaginary deixis (and its subtypes). The same analogy is followed when analyzing the demonstrative pronouns. Examples with the pronoun anas ʻthatʼ are given separately from other deictic words due its questionable place in the deictic system. When studying the selected material of virtual tours, it was found that in the case of direct speech, the adverbs of place čia ʻhereʼ / ten ʻthereʼ usually acquire the meanings ʻaboveʼ, ʻat the bottomʼ, ʻrightʼ or ʻleftʼ, . The demonstrative pronouns šis ʻthisʼ / tas ʻthatʼ are used not only to describe the place (near / far) in relation to the speaker, but also to highlight something. The virtual tours are dominated by the imaginal deixis, in which the distance words ten ʻthereʼ and tas ʻthatʼ are usually chosen for reference. It has been established that tour guides, when using statements with deictic words, tend to accompany them with gestures. Analyzing the selected data, deictic (indicative), iconic and metaphorical gestures were observed. However, deictic gestures are dominant in both literal and imaginary speech.
