Ezopo kalbos vertimas į anglų kalbą Marcelijaus Martinaičio „Kukučio baladėse“ /
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe bachelor thesis examines how Aesopian language is conveyed in Laima Vincė’s translation of Marcelijus Martinaitis’s “The Ballads of Kukutis”. According to different researchers, it has been shown that the specific communicative situation and context shape the Aesopian meaning: the way the text will be read and interpreted. When communicative situation and context change it becomes increasingly difficult for today’s readers to recognise and understand Aesopian language, and the complexity of understanding Aesopian language in a text translated into another language is taken to another level. Thus, the translator’s main task when translating Aesopian language is to decide what and how much information to provide the reader to make Aesopian language functional in the translation. Since the understanding of Aesopian language is determined not only by intratextual but also by extratextual elements, the study is based on a four-level scheme for translation description by sociosemioticians José Lampert and Hendrik van Gorp. The first level looks at the publishing aspects of the translation, the second at the structure and overall strategy of the translation, the third at the extratextual aspects of the translation, and at the fourth level the original is compared with the translation on a textual level. At each level, the context related to the original and to its readers is also taken into account. The study has shown that “The Ballads of Kukutis” is translated literally, which has resulted in means of rendering Aesopian language being conveyed as well, and the readers are provided with enough information to allow Aesopian language to function at least minimally.
