The bachelor's thesis aims at examining the course of the reformation of the Ukrainian national identity, the construction and change of narratives, the probability of its continuity and the necessary conditions for said continuity. The first task of the research is to define and describe the narratives constructed and asserted by Ukrainian presidential and parliamentary leaders in their speeches. The second task is to determine the degree of influence of the confrontation between the West and Russia on the formation of the Ukrainian identity manifested through the speeches of national leaders. The third task is to describe how the narrative of the brotherhood of the Slavic peoples was changed and finally changed after the Russian aggression in 2014. The fourth task is to define the impact of the war with Russia on the reformation of the Ukrainian national identity through the speeches of the leaders and determine the further possible direction of the reformation. The method used in this work is discourse analysis, which is useful for studying social phenomena that occur over a period of time. The research revealed that the presidential and parliamentary leaders of Ukraine constructed three narratives in their speeches: Ukraine as an integral part of the old Europe, Ukraine as a united state and Ukraine as "anti-Russia". Meanwhile, the degree of opposition between the West and Russia's influence on the formation of Ukrainian national identity was minimal until 2022-02-24 - until this date Ukrainian leaders do not mention this influence at all, the main message is not "West against Russia" but "Ukraine against Russia". After the escalation of the war, this influence increased, as the West applied sanctions against Russia and began to support Ukraine with ever-increasing quantities and types of weapons, which caused a corresponding reaction from the Russian side and thus raised the level of confrontation already with the West. The narrative of the "Brotherhood of the Slavic Nations" was replaced by a combination of the first and third narratives - instead of the brotherhood of the Slavic Nations, the “integral part of Europe” and the "anti-Russia" narratives were chosen. Although Belarus is also a Slavic nation and is part of the narrative of brotherhood of Slavic peoples, the leaders of Ukraine did not mention Belarus directly in their analysed speeches, but bearing in mind Belarus' very close relations with Russia, it is easy to assume that Belarus also falls into the "anti-Russia" narrative. The impact of the war on the reformation of the national identity of Ukraine since 2014. was already huge, and after February 24, 2022, it became simply massive - Russia is defined as an enemy and shall remain such for a very long time, and if Ukraine wins, this war, its heroes and victims, defeats and victories will become the basis for further identity reformation. The research showed that the reformation is taking place sufficiently fast and rather efficiently, but no further predictions can be made without the end of the war. Thus, any additional research on the reformation of Ukraine's national identity would be useful for a deeper understanding of the country's politics and would reveal its choices after the end of the war with Russia (depending on how it ends), and for a more reliable study, it would be useful to use additional data collection methods. and research methods.
