Vilnius University, Faculty of Medicine. Department of Nursing, Institute of Health Sciences. Oncological diseases are increasing exponentially and the demand of nursing services is growing. In Lithuania, the demand for outpatient services at home is increasing year by year. The increasing demand for services also requires greater preparation of professionals to ensure that the needs of all patients are met. It is therefore important to find out the specificities of nursing services in order to ensure that the needs of patients are effectively and sufficiently met. Aim: To analyse the nursing care peculiarities of patients with oncological disease in the context of home nursing services. Methods. The used instrument was a structured interview. Data transcribed in MS Word. The analysis of the research data was carried out using qualitative content analysis. The study involved 8 general practice nurses who provide home nursing care to oncology patients. Results. Oncology patients require specific care. Oncology patients have particular characteristics in their care: more time- consuming patients, specific nursing actions are required duo to their condition. This group of patients is psychologically vulnerable. Relatives experience great psychological difficulties. ASPN services do not meet the care needs of oncology patients as they require palliative services. Which, in the opinion of the nurses, do not fully meet the care needs of oncology patients at present. Because there are staff and funding shortages and inequalities in the distribution of patients. Conclusions. These patients require specific care because of the problems that arise in their home care. The oncology patients group requires more time, specific knowledge about the condition and skills in manipulations. The work of nurses is complex duo to the psychological problems that exist, not only for patients and relatives, but also for the professionals themselves. At present, according to the nurses interviewed, the services provided are not complete and do not meet all the needs of the cancer patient. Recommendations: pay attention to the complexity of the services provided to patients and adjust nurses’ workload accordingly. Create additional attractive jobs for young nursing professionals to ensure sufficient staffing levels. Keywords. Oncology patients, home care, palliative care, nursing characteristics. Strengths of the study: Nurses can contribute to the process of improving nursing care. Disadvantages: The nurses in the study have uneven workloads and different numbers of oncology patients, and more nurses from different setting would be needed to further explore the topic.
