Tasks of work: 1. To assess the self-care skills of preschool children with autism spectrum disorder before ABA therapy in a treatment and control group. 2. To assess the self-care skills of preschool children with autism spectrum disorder after ABA therapy in the treatment and control groups. 3. To compare the effect of ABA therapy on the self-care skills of preschool children suffering from autism spectrum disorder between the treatment and control groups. Materials and methods: The study was carried out between January and March 2024 at the VšĮ „ABA centre “. 22 preschool children participated in the study. Children were randomly divided into two groups: the first group received ABA therapy and the behavior chain method, and the second group received ABA therapy and parental counselling on child independence. The assessment was carried out using the WeeFIM scale and a questionnaire based on R. Ivoškuvienė, J. Balčiunaitės skills scheme was used twice: at the beginning and at the end of the study. Data analysis was carried out using the statistical analysis in R Commander 4.3.2 and Excel 2020. Results and Conclusions: 1. Before the therapy WeeFIM skills of preschool children in eating – 4,18 points average in the treatment and control group, personal hygiene – 3,73 points in the treatment and 3,55 points in the control group, getting dressed – 3,64 points in the treatment group and 3,18 points in the control group. In the self-efficacy skills questionnaire, using an exclamation mark averaged 3,18 points in the treatment group and 3,36 points in the control group, washing hands averaged 2,19 points in the treatment group and 3,27 points in the control group, and putting on a sweater averaged 2,64 points in the treatment group and 2,82 points in the control group. 2. Preschoolers' post-therapy WeeFIM autonomy skills in eating – 5,55 in the treatment group and 4,45 in the control group, personal hygiene 4.84 in the treatment group and 4,84 in the control group and getting dressed – 4,73 in the treatment group and 3,64 in the control group. In the self-efficacy skills questionnaire, using an exclamation mark averaged 4,73 points in the treatment group and 3,73 points in the control group, washing hands averaged 4,64 points in the treatment group and 3,55 points in the control group, and putting on a sweater averaged 4 points in the treatment group and 3,09 points in the control group. 3. A comparison of the effects of ABA therapy on the self-care skills of preschool children with autism spectrum disorder between the treatment and control groups showed improvements in all areas. In the WeeFIM scale, the treatment group showed statistically significant (p<0,05) improvements in all activities: eating – 1,37 points, upper body dressing – 1,1 points, personal hygiene – 1,1 points. In the control group, a statistically significant improvement was observed only in the area of eating: eating – 0,5 points. In the questionnaire, the treatment group showed statistically significant (p<0,05) improvements in all activities: using a spoon skill - 1.52 points, putting on the sweater skill – 1,4 points, hand washing skill – 1,74 points. In the control group, a statistically significant improvement was observed only in the spoon use skill, with a score of 0,34.","abstract_html":"The aim of research work: The aim of the research work: To determine the effectiveness of ABA therapy in developing self-care skills with preschool children suffering from autism spectrum disorder.
