Abstract

dc:description

50 pages, 22 figures, 3 tables, 69 sources The main objective of this work is to examine the issues and challenges in ensuring old age pensions and their impact on economic welfare, aiming to understand their influence on societal well-being and economic sustainability. The tasks of this work are: to analyze the characteristics of old age pensions in Lithuania from a theoretical perspective; to identify the problems related to old age pensions; to examine the changes in old age pension indicators in Lithuania; to assess the impact of old age pensions on the country's welfare and economic stability; and to evaluate the interaction between the size of old age pension benefits and welfare economy indicators. The literature review presents the concept of pensions, describes the old age pension system in Lithuania, identifies the tiers of old age pensions, reveals the issues within the pension system, and outlines the characteristics of the welfare state economy. The research section presents the research methodology, an analysis of welfare economy indicators in Lithuania, an analysis of old age pension indicators and their factors in Lithuania, and a correlation and regression analysis of welfare economy indicators and old age pension expenditures. The analysis of old age pension indicators and their factors revealed the main problems of the pension system and confirmed aspects from the theoretical part, such as population aging. In recent years, the number of old age pension recipients in Lithuania has increased. The extension of the retirement age is leading to a rise in the number of people taking early retirement. The average old age pension in Lithuania is relatively low, and it has been found that a person who reaches retirement age receives only about 46% of their previous salary income. The analysis also revealed that every second participant enrolled in pension accumulation opts out, which is associated with a lack of financial literacy and low investment returns. The analysis of Lithuania's welfare economic indicators revealed that old age pensions are increasing more slowly than the country's average monthly net salary or minimum monthly wage.
